Caribbean Courses

Join us for the best sailing education and winter holiday available in our 23rd year of Caribbean instruction. 

$2620-2820 (depending on cabin size) We cover the same content as our popular Boston courses - only with white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and trade winds. 

ASA 104

Starting from Tortola, the cruising area will include the surrounding waters in the British Virgins Islands, aboard a Sun Odyssey 449. Gain the fundamental skills needed to cruise and charter successfully on this 6-day course. This course will prepare you for a Cruising 30 or 35 membership or for bareboat chartering.

This course includes entering unfamiliar harbors, anchoring, sail handling, dinghy use and more. We cover the mechanical and electrical systems of a full-size cruising boat, the navigation required for sailing in coastal waters, and docking under power.

The course is structured so you can fly in on the first day and out on the last day. No need for a hotel! The course fee covers all food and drink on board.

Price

$2820 for a large double cabin or $2620 for a smaller bunk cabin (presently, small cabins are sold out in both weeks - contact the office to be added to a waitlist). The course fee covers all food and drink on board. *Discounts offered for students who have already enrolled in a macro program or have a current membership. Inquire with the office.

At least three students per week are required to run each course. Do not buy flights until the course is confirmed by the office.

If you're looking for a series of courses tailored to meet your specific sailing ambitions, the Boston Sailing Center offers a number of Macro Programs. Whether you're looking to charter in the Caribbean and beyond, buy your first sailboat, or join the racing community, the Boston Sailing Center has the Macro Program to take you from beginner to success - all at a substantial savings.

Macros combine sequential courses and Student Memberships to give you the instruction and hands-on experience you'll need to achieve your goals. Students enrolled in Macro Programs have the full choice of course formats and start dates available to all students. However, only students in Macro Programs receive a FREE 45-Day Student Membership affording you the opportunity to practice what you've learned between courses of the Macro Program (refundable security deposit required; some restrictions apply).

 

Coast Guard Captain's License Course

$995 Earn your captain's license at the BSC

greg metcalfThis course will prepare you for the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license which allows you to take up to 6 passengers for hire. The course is Coast Guard approved and offered by the Atlantic Captain's Academy.

Course includes sitting for the OUPV exam so you don't need to take the test at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Center. 

Requirements for Applicants

Applicants should be 18+ years old, a US citizen or greencard holder, able to pass a physical, and have no recent criminal felonies. Sea service requirements are 360 days (back 16th birthday), and 90 of which need to be in the last three years.

Before purchasing course, please review this list and visit the Coast Guard's OUPV page to make sure you meet all requirements. 

Additional Estimated Costs

This is a preparatory and testing course, and does not include the costs for Coast Guard application and other fees. Additional costs are estimated to be $165 for the Coast Guard Application, $75 for CPR/First Aid, $65 for a drug test, and $129 for a TWIC card. You will also need to arrange for a physical. 

Format

Winter Course. Class runs from January 14 to March 20, 2019. Meets for nine consecutive Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for instruction, plus testing days of Monday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 20 from 6:00-9:00pm.
