Seminars and Workshops

Are you looking to add to your repertoire of knots or learn how to trouble shoot an engine? Continue your sailing education with our Seminars and Workshops.

Women's Racing Clinic - Sunday, June 4, 2017 10:30 AM- 3 PM

The focus will be on boat handling and basic racing skills, including starts, sail shape, balance, and tactics. A review of racing rules will be included as well.

$60 per boat (up to three spots) or $25 for an individual.

Student Member Coaching

For those who have recently completed the Learn to Sail course we offer informal coaching to help transition to sailing on your own. Just about every other Friday from 5-8pm, we will pair up interested student-members in teams of three and send them out to sail in the inner harbor. There will be an instructor coaching from one of the motor boats. There is no cost for this program - it is a benefit made available to our Student Members (this means you must activate your student membership in order to participate). See the calendar for the schedule and call the office to sign up.

Island Races

An informal race around the Harbor Islands open to all types of boats in the fleet. The course is determined at the skipper's meeting.

How to Participate

The online sign-up is for the party after the race. To skipper a boat in the race make a boat reservation for that day. If you need crew let the office know. If you would rather volunteer as crew (or you are a Student Member), call the office and we will try to get you on a boat. See below about how the crew list works.

This is a great, informal day of racing followed by a barbecue back at the Riverboat with your fellow racers.

  ISLAND RACE SCHEDULE

9:00 AM Crews arrive to rig
9:30 AM  Skippers Meeting
10:00 AM Race
1:00 PM Party

Looking to crew for the island race? This is how it works!

  • Inform the office you are intending to crew. If we hear that there is a boat looking for crew ahead of time, we will put you in touch with a skipper.
  • If you do not hear from a skipper, arrive at 9am to put your name on the "Wants to Crew" List.
  • The office will then do their best to match up crew with boats that are racing. If they have an extra spot, you are welcome to join their boat!
  • We also hold a couple of boats as "crew list only" boats. If we cannot match up crew with pre-booked boats, we will ask any person on the crew list who has a full membership to skipper a boat (usually a Sonar or a J-24) depending on the member's membership level.

Member Nights and Member Brunches

Member Nights and Brunches at the BSC

If you're looking for sailing partners or you just want to meet your fellow members, Member Nights are a great way to do it! Members of all levels come down and casually sail together, then meet back at the Riverboat for dinner, drinks, and sometimes Trivia! Any member attending may be asked to skipper a boat. Please sign up at least 24 hours in advance as these events tends to sell out.

Member Night

Arrive at the BSC office at 5:00 PM to get your boat assignment and go for a sail, then return to the center for dinner on the upper deck around sunset.

Member Brunch

Late in the season, when sunset is earlier, we switch to a Sunday morning Member Brunch. Arrive at the office at 10:00 AM to get your boat assignments, then return to the Riverboat for brunch around 1:00 PM.
