Alternatives

for lunch

Instead of Hadley, you can look into Megansett or Wild Harbor, both on the east side of Buzzards Bay. They are less compelling, for sure, but a good variation, especially in an easterly. For a beach, anchor off Kettle Cove on the north side of Naushon.

for the night

Mattapoisett is less sheltered than Marion, but still attractive in most weather.
New Bedford is a thoroughly industrial harbor, but the city offers more shoreside diversions than any nearby harbor if you're stuck for a stretch of bad weather.
Red Brook Harbor across the Canal entrance from Onset, is a popular alternative.

for a shorter cruise

Skipping either Marion or Padanaram makes for a 6 day trip with little change in tenor. Skipping both gives a 5 day trip with time to enjoy at least a couple stops.
