Hanse 400e
A new addition to the Cruising 40 fleet for 2008. The Hanse 400 sets a new standard for combining speed, comfort, and ease of handling and was the European Yacht of the Year for 2006.
The most notable feature on deck is the
self tacking jib. To keep the foredeck clear, the jib sheet leads from the clew of the sail to a block on a traveler (which runs in front of the mast), then enters the mast up high and joins the other control lines leading aft to the cockpit. The large wheel combined with rod link steering system gives the boat an extremely responsive helm. The sail plan has plenty of power but it's easy to reduce sail with the one line reefing system. The cockpit has teak covered seats and the transom folds out to allow access to the swim platform.
Down below the three cabin layout is well ventilated and bright thanks to the use of white laminates in the bulkheads. The galley features a fridge with both top and front access. The head has a separate shower stall.
Go to the Hanse web site for more info and check out a review of the Hanse 400 in Sailing Magazine.
Cruising 40 members can daysail the Hanse 400 or take it for extended cruises of up to 7 days.
