Night Sailing

OPEN HOUSE SPECIAL! Discounted to $355 through Monday, May 1st

$385 Classroom session covers the navigation required for night sailing followed by an evening sail.

For Mid-Range Cruising members interested in sailing at night or expanding their horizons beyond Boston Harbor.

Prerequisite  Advanced Course or equivalent experience 
Prepares you for Mid-Range membership with nightsailing priviledges

 

 CLASSROOM - NAVIGATION 5:30-6:30pm SAILING 6:45 to 11:30pm

LOPs and fixes
Running fix
Light characteristics of aids to navigation
Running light requirements
Interpreting running lights on other vessels and applying the rules of the road
Low visibility navigation
Route planning
Discuss clothing and personal equipment, hypothermia and seasickness 
Preparation of the boat for a cruise
Evaluating weather forecasts
Planning a sensible route with alternatives
Selecting and trimming sails for optimum comfort and speed
Coastal navigation
Night sailing techniques
Techniques for sailing in poor visibility
Applying the rules of the road
Discuss common problems and potential emergencies with appropriate responses 

Format

One Evening: This one evening course begins at 5:30pm with a one hour classroom session followed by an evening of night sailing and navigation. Class ends at 11:30pm.
